TOLERATE DIVERSITY

When people seek a political objective that is as corrective and far reaching as Black Nationalism, the element of consensus takes on a chameleonic character. As such, in general terms, consensus equates to agreement, but in specific terms, consensus equates to validation. I will explain what I mean by that.

Black nationalists must be politically mature enough to come to a general consensus; that Black nationalism is a legitimate objective. However, when We try to determine HOW Black Nationalism can best be realized, We must come to a consensus of a specific nature. We must not assume that a specific consensus means agreeing on a specific course of action that all Black nationalists must adhere to. That would be a mistake. At this time, Our specific consensus must revolve around public validation of the various approaches taken by various groups of Black nationalists. As Our struggle matures, the approaches and groups that prove themselves most efficient and capable will absorb most of the others, and We will either become a self-governing people or relapse into apathy as a result.

At certain times and within certain limitations, what Black People do in search of Our Black Nation is less important than the fact that We do something that has a Black nationalist objective. We can not spell out in advance all of the correct steps We need to take, but We can popularize Black Nationalism and generate Black nationalist energy if We ACT in some way or another. At this point, each Black nationalist group must determine what its acts will consist of, and other Black nationalist groups and individuals must publicly validate those acts. Under no circumstance should We publicly criticize or denounce one another. As long as a group is generating Black nationalist consciousness and energy, no other Black nationalist group or individual should be publicly critical of the methodology that was employed.

STRESS INPUT, NOT RESULTS

Sometimes things will go according to plans, sometimes they will not. The only thing each citizen can be certain of is whether or not s/he gives 100%. If We give 100% and persevere, We will get the result We seek.

Good things come to those who go out and get them. However, good things do not come to those who go out in a haphazard manner. Therefore, a large portion of Our input must be based on intelligent planning and preparation, and intelligently acting according to what We have planned to do.

What is an intelligent act? An intelligent act is the expenditure of energy in a way that will promote Our cause without undermining Our objective or guiding principles. At times, an intelligent act will look civilized and reasonable. At other times, an intelligent act will look barbaric and unreasonable. How an intelligent act looks is not important. What is important is that Our citizens act intelligently.

Whether each citizen inputs to the best of his or her ability is the most important factor in Our march to self-government. As long as We continue to struggle, We will either succeed or be within a hand's length of success. We can not be defeated by outsiders, but We can defeat Ourselves. The proper mental and physical input will guarantee that We will not defeat Ourselves.

FULL TIME AND PART TIME

What each individual does or fails to do is the most important factor in Our struggle for self-government. For that reason, each citizen must decide what s/he is able to contribute and follow through on that commitment. Under no circumstances should a citizen commit to do more than s/he is able to do. Each town and city will be making plans based on what each citizen pledges to contribute, so a citizen who pledges to contribute X and fails to do so can cause an entire plan to fall short of its objectives. If intelligent citizens have "X" to work with, they will make plans around "X". If intelligent citizens have "less than X" to work with, they will make plans around "less than X". Therefore, each citizen must be sincere when s/he lets Us know what can be expected from him/her.

If a person pledges X and delivers X on time, that person is a full time citizen. If a person pledges X but delivers less than X, that is a person We can not afford to make plans around. Can that person be valuable? That's possible, for a non-essential task here or there. But can We rely on that person enough to make plans around his/her involvement? No.

Please review this lesson at your convenience and at your own pace. Afterwards, you can proceed to the next lesson.
