Read the following essays in The Black Studies Book: "Can These Colors Merge: Where Did the Idea of Integration in America Come From? (p. 223) and "Integration: A Huge Mountain to Climb" (p. 236). Be able to expound on the following issues.

(1) Have you ever thought about where the idea of integration between Black People and white people in the United States came from? If not, why not?

(2) What are individual and political equality? Can integration exist without either individual or political equality?

(3) What role does civilization play in the integration process?

(4) What handicaps do white poeple have to overcome before they can become sincere integrationaists?

(5) On page 225 in The Black Studies Book, the following sentence appears. What is at the heart of that sentence?

"None of the humans involved seriously thought about integration as a solution to the problem of white/Black relations in the United States because it was an impossible solution?"
